Imagine life without power. No streetlights to make your neighbourhood safer. No ceiling lights to help kids do their homework or to comfort them when they wake from a nightmare. No refrigerator to keep your food fresh or washing machine to save you time on chores. For over two years, Syrian families living in Azraq refugee camp in Jordan had no electricity in their shelters. Thanks to funding from the @IKEA Foundation’s Brighter Lives for Refugees Campaign, @UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, built a solar farm to provide the camp with renewable energy. A first for UNHCR. Now families are plugging in and rediscovering their own powers.
